Experience the Best Driving Routes in Scandinavia

Experience the Best Driving Routes in Scandinavia

Magnificent mountains, incredible coastlines, fishing villages, fjords and small towns are some of what your eyes will behold on this amazing adventure.

It might sound more like a trip through middle Earth but actually it is a trip more toward the top of the Earth through the northern portion of Europe called Scandinavia, which is mostly made up of Sweden, Denmark and Finland. Iceland happens to be an extended part of Scandinavia that is mentioned here because of the popular weather saying of, "If you don't like the weather, just wait 10 minutes." Because of the vast array of manmade features as well as natural elements, one can almost say that "If you don't like what you're looking at, just drive 10 miles." With that said, we will now take a look at some of Scandinavia's most exciting driving routes, that will show you incredible man made features and magnifice nt views. So that you can really get a "feel" for the roads you will be driving on, how about choose a car from the Swedish automaker - Volvo.

The "Daisy" Route

This route is made up of over 2,200 miles and is nicknamed Denmark's "Daisy Route" due to the vast amount of Marguerite Daisy's all along the route. No problem finding this route though, all you have to do is find the daisy-themed signs and follow them. A good recommendation is for you to start in Roskilde by visiting the world famous Viking Ship Museum and then travel on to see the islands of Denmark. Another good recommendation is to finish the route in Funen where you will see more beautiful daisy's, ancient burial mounds, breathtaking coastal views and jaw dropping cliffs as you travel from one island to the next.

Atlantic Road

The California Pacific Coast Highway has nothing on Scandinavia's Norway's Atlantic Road. The road is only 5 miles long but to see it on a map, you would think you were riding on a child's toy track. Because it is so short, you can travel it in just a few minutes, and afterwards you may try on your adventurous self and take a drive close to the Trollstigen Mountain, (only 4 miles) as well as the 67 mile and more challenging Sognefjellet Mountain Road. The Trollstigen Mountain is considered the largest pass in Northern Europe at 4,700 feet.

Bohuslan

If you happen to be a seafood lover you will love the drive the Bohuslan Coast of Sweden. On this drive you can stop by any number of fishing villages along the way, and sample their "catch of the day" specials. This seafood is only hours out of the ocean and will delight your palate for sure.

Oresund Bridge

For those of you who are driving from southern Sweden into Denmark, there is a world famous bridge you just must drive on. It is the Oresund Bridge that is a four lane combo road/rail bridge and t he longest of its kind in Europe. From the entrance to the artificial island of Peberholm, the bridge is about five miles. At that point it turns into a tunnel that takes you to the Danish islands. The bridge was built in 2000 and has seen more than 17,000 cars per day.

Northern Norway

Northern Norway is the place where the Arctic Circle is located and the place for some incredible sights. If you go during the summer months, you will be able to view the midnight sun. Or if you choose to go during the winter months, you can see the northern lights. It is easy to find by just taking the Coastal Highway north for the Arctic Circle. In the town of Alta, which dates from 4200 BC, you will find many artifacts and while you are that far north, you will not want to miss driving on to North Cape, which is at the very top of the world and the most northern city in Europe.

By now you are probably chomping at the bit to find out how you can make such a n amazing adventure. The way is to purchase a new Volvo that is within the Volvo Overseas Delivery Program, which is their most unique and exciting way to purchase a car. Upon purchase of your new Volvo, the company will give you two round trip tickets to Europe, savings on the US MSRP on US model Volvos, a FREE first class night in a hotel in Gothenburg, Sweden, and FREE shipping of your new Volvo to a US Volvo retailer. This is an awesome opportunity to both see some incredible sights and experience them all from the comfort of your new Volvo.
